Obey the parking signs and try to pick an unobtrusive spot to not block the locals from access to their houses...it sucks to have to haul your groceries half a block when you can't park in front of your house!! :) The areas are as crime-free as you can expect (but the valet parking is safer), though don't leave anything visible that people would want to steal...a friend left his wallet and cell on the dashboard and went into his house for 10 minutes--they were gone when he came out.
