yeah, we just came back from there on Friday... wanted to stay at a place close to french quarters, harrah's casino, riverwalk, etc..

the price of the hotel wasn't bad, but it was $28 for the parking and the cab fare was minimum $10 each time we went somewhere.. mind you, we did PLENTY of walking, but just too much to do and see within walking distance..

really depends on what you plan to do there. you may want to stay at a hotel out away from that area and pay to park when you go..
for example tho, we went to riverwalk... have to pay everywhere to park.. and we decided to take a taxi down to french quarters.. it was hot and kids in tow...
we walked back afterward and it was about 4 hr total our car was in the parking lot and it was $15...
i would google plenty of hotels and ask lots of questions.. because even when i called for the hotel we stayed at Hilton garden side.. the lady didnt mention parking fees, valet person to tip, breakfast NOT included, etc... msperkey35

Queen and Crescent is free parking when no events are in town

Plus if you play at Harrah's and register for a player card and play for thirty minutes, you can get parking for free deployedbride

Hey nolaGuy Villa Convento has Garage for free that is 5 blocks from the hotel. La Richelieu Has it on site. THanks for the thumbs down But if it was me i would rather park onsite.
And the other one you listed has parking for 26 a day. EmiSaint

Parking is ridiculously expensive, but I suggest you pay for it. Most garages are relatively safe... whereas parking on the street is A) risking a parking violation and spending more money than you would have if you paid the hotel parking fees and B) Your car/whatever is in it is safer in a garage (Not always true, but I personally feel more comfortable when my car is in a garage.) SELU_GO LIONS

Most of the hotels downtown charge outrageous fees for parking.

The Hotel Villa Convento offers free parking for guests and the Hotel Royal Saint Charles sometimes offers free parking:

If you want to stay elsewhere, call the hotel and ask to speak with the Sales Manager (NOT just whoever answers the phone). Tell them you would like to stay at their hotel but the cost of parking is unacceptable. Summer is low season for tourism in New Orleans and you may be able to negotiate a room rate that includes parking. That probably won't work during the rest of the year, but it's worth a try.

The least expensive parking downtown is at the AmTrak/Greyhound station. You do not have to be an AmTrak or Greyhound customer to use the lot. The fee is $4.00 per 24 hours and the lot has a 24/7 attendant. The station is a short taxi ride from the French Quarter.

If you park your car in a neighborhood, be sure to park it away from driveways, corners, and fire hydrants. You also need to move it every few days as "storing" a vehicle on a public street is a specific parking violation in New Orleans. Parking Control will tow away your car if a resident reports it.

----------------------------

Hey EmiSaint:

1. I didn't give you a thumbs down
2. The Villa Conveto does have free parking, even if the parking isn't onsite
3. The Hotel Royal Saint Charles > SOMETIMES < offers free parking. What part of "sometimes" do you not understand?
4. Thank you for pointing out the fact the Le Richelieu now offers free parking (didn't when I stayed there). NOLA guy

You can drop off your luggage at your hotel, then drive to Mid-City or Uptown, park it, and take the streetcar into town.

Find a side street west of Napoleon near St. Charles or West of Carrollton in the Canal to Orleans area and leave it for a few days and ride the street car in.

Obey the parking signs and try to pick an unobtrusive spot to not block the locals from access to their houses...it sucks to have to haul your groceries half a block when you can't park in front of your house!! :)

The areas are as crime-free as you can expect (but the valet parking is safer), though don't leave anything visible that people would want to steal...a friend left his wallet and cell on the dashboard and went into his house for 10 minutes--they were gone when he came out.

You can also park in the CBD on weekends on the street, though theft risk is higher. Zariana
